Climate Change in Madhya Pradesh: A Compendium of Expert Views
This document has been prepared by the State Climate Change Knowledge Management Centre of the Environmental Planning & Coordination Organisation as part of a Government of Madhya Pradesh–UNDP project. The project is funded by UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS) of the Netherlands for the benefit of developing countries. Climate change is not only an environmental concern but also one of the world’s greatest developmental challenges. The State of Madhya Pradesh has socio-economic and ecological reasons to be concerned about the impacts of climate change, as the people of this State are heavily dependent on climate-sensitive sectors like agriculture and forestry for their livelihoods.
Madhya Pradesh’s SAPCC aims to address regional concerns and it outlines the strategies required to develop a climate-resilient State. The strategies and recommendations of the SAPCC will strengthen the developmental planning process of the State with policy-level interventions. The strategies and activities proposed in the Madhya Pradesh SAPCC by and large conform to the actions proposed in the respective mission documents of the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC).
